Bayern Munich have signed Philippe Coutinho on a season-long loan from Barcelona with an option to buy the Brazilian for £109.8million next summer.

The former Liverpool star looks set to end his sorry spell at the Nou Camp after the German champions agreed to pay £7.78m to take him on loan before making the move permanent at the end of the season.

Barcelona have been desperate to shift the 27-year-old forward for much of the summer following a disappointing season - and Tottenham were among the clubs linked with his signature.

But after rejecting a move to north London, the Spanish and German champions have confirmed the agreement for Coutinho to spend this season in Munich.

A Barca statement confirmed: "Bayern Munich will pay 8.5 million euros and the player's wages.

"The agreement also sees an option to buy for Bayern fixed at 120 million euros.

"FC Barcelona would like to thank to publicly thank Philippe Coutinho for his commitment and dedication wishes him all the best in this new stage of his career."

Coutinho joined the Catalans from Liverpool in January 2018 but failed to live up to his £142m price tag at the Nou Camp.

He will don the No. 10 shirt at the Allianz Arena, and his new club's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "We've been working on bringing in Philippe Coutinho for quite some time and we're very happy that we've been able to complete this transfer.

"Our thanks go to FC Barcelona for agreeing to the transfer. With his creativity and outstanding skills, Philippe is a player who will immediately strengthen our attack."
